Organizing audio into playlists

A playlist is a collection of songs grouped together into an easily manageable list. A playlist can be used to create long running sets of audio, limited only by your imagination.

To create and listen to a playlist:
1 Select New Playlist from the File menu.
2 Drag and drop MP3, CD, or other audio files from the Finder into the Playlist Window.
Or, drag folders or volumes filled with audio files directly into the Playlist Window.
3 Click the Order sort button at the top of the playlist window, and move the items in your playlist up and down the list by dragging to organize it to your liking.
4 Hit the Play button on a control window to begin playing the playlist.

Your playlist will begin playing from top to bottom according to the order.

Although you can have many playlists open at once, only one can be active. Double click an item in a playlist to make that playlist the active one.

Tip: You can double click a song in a playlist to start playing from that song.

You can save your playlist by opening the File menu and selecting Save Playlist. If you forget to save your playlist, Audion will remind you.

If you find yourself switching between playlists often, create a folder named "playlists" inside the same folder as Audion and place your playlists inside of it. Audion will then automatically build your lists into the Open Playlist Quickly menu choice in the File menu. This makes it really easy to switch between your favorites sets of songs without having to touch the Finder: simply select the one you want from the Playlist menu.

Tip: Try creating playlists based on mood: an energetic one for those late night crunches, or a romantic one for those hot dates, etc.

Understanding the status icons

While a playlist is played, the following icons will be displayed next to the icons in a playlist:
    Currently playing item.
    Normal item.
Played item. Will remain until the playlist is restarted.
Broken item. The file cannot be found, or is not playable.

Working with your playlist

To listen to a playlist in a random order without affecting the playlist itself:
Open the Playlist menu and choose "Shuffle Play".

    To randomize the playlist's order:
Open the Playlist menu and choose Randomize Playlist.

To repeat a playlist (have it loop until you hit stop):
Open the Playlist menu and check Repeat Playlist.

To repeat a song (have it loop until you hit stop):
Open the Playlist menu and check Repeat Song.

To reset the order of a playlist after randomizing:
Open the Playlist menu and check Reset Playlist.

The Open Playlist Quickly... menu

If you have a large number of playlists that you frequently use, you can place them in a folder named "Playlists" in the same folder as the Audion application. Any playlists inside this folder will automatically be appended to the Open Playlist Quickly menu in the File menu. This will make switching between playlists as easy as selecting an item in a menu.

You can also open these playlists from the popup menu on any control window.
